A man who allegedly put his wife in hospital by beating her up, later went there to stab her on the ward were she was recovering. This second time around he killed her.
Not unsurprisingly, the Public Prosecutor is recommending 39 years in prison because he considers that A.R.C. planned to end her life on the night of the 1st April, 2015, with a hammer whilst she slept, causing extensive head injuries.
According to the prosecution, he then wrecked the room to fake a violent burglary. He then washed his hands in the bathroom and left the house ‘to find help.’
The injuries suffered meant that she was in post-operative care for nearly a month and then, on the 29th of April, she was moved to an open ward. As is the norm in Spanish hospitals, relatives take turns and spending the night next to the patient – the husband was one of them.
The prosecution considers that during one of the night stop overs the husband stabbed her with a kitchen knife which he had brought to the hospital for that purpose. One of the stab wounds with the 17-cm blade entered her heart, killing her.
He then wounded himself in the stomach, his left arm and his neck, none of which were life threatening although in court he presents the image of being badly affected by his injuries.
Consequently, he faces charged of both attempted murder (the original attack) and premeditated murder; the former could get him 14 years and the latter 25 years’ imprisonment.
