El Faro March & Mothers
Popped in to El Faro in Almuñécar the other day, Robbie and Aly were trying to wake Matt up as usual… mind you it was only 7pm; still a little bit early for him.
Robbie was also making detailed plans for Mothering Sunday on the 26th of March. So, thinking ahead, why not call or pop in and book a table for that special lady to enjoy a proper Sunday roast! There will be a glass of cava and other little treats for the mothers, while the rest of us will just have to watch, so unfair.
Don’t forget the breakfasts, football, bingo and loads more. I would do a list of all the offers, events and goings-on at El Faro… but it would be longer than Matt’s sleep pattern read-out and wouldn’t fit in these pages. So, best thing to do is get your botties down there and find out for yourselves.

Da Nicola & St. Patrick
Join Blashka, Nigel & Samantha for a St. Patrick’s Night Celebration at Da Nicola in Almuñécar on Saturday 18th of this month. There will be Guinness (obviously), and some Irish music to help you celebrate.
Now, the Paddies amongst you all, like my wife, will all be pointing out that St. Patrick’s Day is the 17th, not the 18th. But you’ll just have to live with it and pretend. It will be a good night… so make sure you don’t miss it! Good food, music and a great atmosphere… who cares about the bloody date?

Best Butcher Franci
One of our regular stops when we lived in La Herradura was our favourite butcher, Franci. Supplying great cuts of fresh meat he also makes great brochetas which are delicious, but it’s not just the butchery. He always has an extremely good selection of UK and Northern European products.
I always feel Franci looks rather fierce in his photos here in The Gazette, holding his knife and looking ready for action. But the reality is far from that; he is a softly spoken gentleman and always willing to explain the cuts of meat and contents of the sausages, in very passable English.
Located right on the town square on Calle Alhambra, he has very regular and loyal customers for a good reason; me being one of them, and it’s easy to see why. Long may he wield his trusty blade in the village!

Mother’s Day @ Ayer
Sunday the 26th of March sees a Mother’s Day Menu at Taberna Ayer, a 3 course menu including a glass of cava and strawberries for all mums at 19.50 euros per person. Call in to see the menu and reserve.

Don’t forget Taberna Ayer’s Sunday Chicken Special, reservations are essential. The free 1/2 bottle of Rioja or Rueda per person is still running every Friday and Saturday night on their Menu de La Noche, again booking is preferred.

Super Sabina
What a success story this Almuñécar restaurant is, especially in our recent economic climate.
After popping in for a chat with Sabina, I realized we only seem to do articles for this very popular restaurant when she has a special event on, like Martin’s Duck, August Fireworks or Christmas… but this venue is not just about the events, it’s quite rightly one of Almuñécar’s most popular restaurants.
You only have to walk around town and the paseo looking at the half empty eateries, then turn the corner and see Sabina’s, with every table full and lots of food being served in a great atmosphere.
If you’ve never tried this little Almuñécar gem, make sure you give it a go. Remember, good food, fresh fish daily, excellent value and top service… what more could any discerning diner want.

Olivares in Almuñécar
The wine and international food shop, Olivares in Almuñécar truly is a handy place to know. Being a Brit I tend to lean towards the huge choice of UK brands available on the shelves, but Olivares is so much more.
If you take the time to have a good look round the place, there’s goods from most Northern European countries and even a very well stocked Indian Spice shelf.
The wine section at the front of the shop is full of all the top names as well as the affordable favorites, plus they are beautifully displayed.
Add to all this that you can always get a copy of the Gazette there, it really is the only place worth visiting for your ‘home foods’ and favorite wines.
