A Guardia Civil patrol car noticed an upside-down canoe in the sea off Castell de Ferro; the canoeist was clinging to its hull. This was at 12.30h, Tuesday the 24th.
The patrol immediately informed the command centre, giving details of the situation and location. A little later the command centre received another call from a concerned citizen about the same situation.
The Guardia Civil maritime patrol ship was immediately dispatched from Motril Port. Within minutes they had located and rescued R.G.C., aged 61, a resident of Córdoba.
The man was suffering from the first signs of hypothermia, exhaustion and was disorientated, so he was quickly taken to Motril Port where an ambulance was waiting to take him to Hospital Santa Ana.
