The Costa Tropical branch of the far-right political party, VOX, has heavily criticised Ecologistas en Accion over its campaign in defence of the Salobreña vega.
Back in April the said ecologist group issued a press release, putting into doubt the legality of the hotel project between the Pénon and La Guardia, as well as warning that the said area has a high tendency to flood.
The second point needs no explanation for anybody who knows the area, but on the first point the doubt centres upon whether the project contravenes European legislation on the environmental protection of coastal areas in the face of urban development. (Directiva 2001/42/CE).
Following this, around mid May, VOX issued a press release in support of the hotel project in which it considered the ecologists’ evaluation of the said terrain as being “worthy of protection” to be “exaggerated.”
Vox goes on to state the ecologist’s campaign, Save the Salobreña Vega, is detrimental to municipal urban development and that the hotel project is far from illegal and certainly doesn’t damage the environment.
Finally, concerning the ecologists’ concern over the grazing ground on the said terrain, VOX Costa Tropical considers that the animals can be moved elsewhere or even accommodated in situ.
