On Saturday the 3rd Vegas del Genil held the I Olimpiadas Rurales – yes, that’s right; the First Rural Olympics, which aims at bringing back traditional village-green games.
Events including olive-stone spitting, 100m sack races (free style) wet, straw-hat throwing, and 200m, 3-legged race, amongst others.
The idea behind these fun, country pastimes is to reintroduce children to these traditional village-fete games.
And the prizes are pretty original, as well: legs of cured ham, morcilla and chorizo instead of medals, which must be worn around the winners neck!
Sounds fun!
