Recent spring gales have ripped up beaches in Almuñécar, amongst other Costa Tropical seaside towns.
The east-facing beaches in Almuñécar took the brunt: Velilla, El Pozuelo and Marina del Este.

Firemen had to help out in Velilla where the surf pounded up against the walls of at least one chiringuito, informed the Councillor for Beaches, Luis Aragón.

Luckily, the damage was done after Semana Santa but the task of restoring the lost sand before the summer will be difficult, if not impossible, without the help of other administrations, such as Costas and the Junta.
