The Duke of Wellington & Mushrooms

The gamekeeper from the Duke of Wellington’s estate near Íllora, Granada, has been sentenced to a 6-month,AND Wellington2 suspended prison sentence.

It was back in November 2012 that a local farmer had been in the woods belonging to the estate collecting mushrooms and edible toadstools, as he does every year, but then the gamekeeper, José R.G. appeared.

Before you could say, “Hands off the Duke’s mushrooms!” a brawl had evolved resulting in the gamekeeper standing accused of actual bodily harm.

José “jealous mushy” will also have to pay the farmer 4,000 euros in compensation. However, the farmer will also have to pay a fine for the injuries inflicted upon the gamekeeper, but far less.

No doubt if Old Nosy were still alive he would comment; “I don’t know if my gamekeepers scare the life out of poachers, but they damn well scare the life out of me…”
