The body of a 31-year-old Frenchman was discovered on a country lane in the municipality of Huétor Santillán by a local out for a walk on Christmas Eve morning.

The local phoned 112 and an ambulance was sent out to the scene, known locally as the Peñoncillos, together with the Guardia Civil, but the medical team could only certify that the victim was dead.

The cause of death will be revealed by an autopsy, but until then the police are making no comments on how he might have met his death, but it does appear that the body bears cuts and bruises.
