A 37-year-old woman in Torrox was found with her throat slit this morning. The incident took place in the Edificio Señorío del Mar.

Neighbours had heard a loud, violent argument at 10.50h and had alerted the police. The woman’s partner, who has antecedents for domestic violence against his previous partner, has been arrested as a suspect.

In response, there has been a gathering outside the Torrox Town Hall in solidarity with the victim at 20.00h this evening.

The victim, Ana María Márquez, was the Curator of the Museo de Nerja. Consequently, the Chairman of the Nerja Cave Foundation, Jorge, Hernández Mollar, has convoked an Extraordinary Meeting of the Board tomorrow, Saturday the 9th.

This is the second incident of domestic violence within the same week in the province of Málaga and the third in the whole of Spain – so far 35 women have lost their lives this year; that’s more than one a week.
