The Guardia Civil has arrested the owner of a lorry, parking area in connection with thefts carried out on 13 lorries in one night on the premises. Two of the lorries were also stolen.
The thefts from the parking area, which is located on the Juncaril industrial estate in Granada, had long intrigued the Guardia Civil and as chance would have it, on the night of the 25th of May the owner of the parking area was on a solitary night shift.
When questioned by the police he said that he had fallen asleep – he thinks that somebody might have slipped something into his food or drink. He said that he awoke, suddenly, to the smell of scorched tyre rubber. The police didn’t put much faith in his statement, which is why they arrested him together with five other people.
The police have since managed to recuperate all the stolen goods, valued at around a quarter of a million euros, as well as the two stolen lorries.
As an added bonus, they found an illegal plantation of cannabis in the same warehouse where the goods had been stashed.
The alleged thieves had been rumbled by the improbable connection of a policeman having his suspicions aroused by a dairy-goods lorry coming out of scrapyard. They stopped the lorry and found some of the stolen goods on board. From this arrest, the rest of the gang’s quickly followed.
