Update on Beacons Way Charity Walk

Dear Editor

I am bothering you again at this time for three reasons:

1. I would like to say a huge thank you to all of you that have already made a donation, either on line or in person. Thank you so very, very much. Also very many thanks to those who were contributors in all sorts of ways to the fund raising night held at Los Amigos where thanks to everyone’s generosity we raised 532euros.

2. This is a gentle reminder to anyone who would like to sponsor me but haven’t yet done so. I know how busy life gets and it’s easy to let things that you want to do slip your mind sometimes. Someone said that because I missed to put the “www” in front of my donation page address it didn’t act as a link so made it more difficult for people to access. Sorry – the address is www.justgiving.com/Gill-Tilcock

3. To give everyone that’s interested an up-date on training progress etc.

Four weeks tomorrow will be 26 May and the first day of our five day walking challenge. Having looked at the map in more detail I know that the very first three miles of our first day is uphill all the way to where more sensible people, having walked, or more likely driven, up to the top, then descend by hang glider! When we reach the top we will continue walking for about another eighteen miles before we can call it a day!!

I am happy with my training to date although I did miss a week last month due to a bad case of laryngitis and have just taken a week off for family visiting. The week before last, one of the six days I walked that week was a small walk in aid of a local animal charity. It was only a ten mile round trip but it consisted of five miles up to Pico de Cielo, Nerja at 1545m and then back down. Very strenuous, but enjoyable.

walking in the rainWhilst out walking with Karen (and Muttley) we have endured all sorts of weather. We’ve had very strong winds, rain, hailstones, low cloud with about 20ft visibility, and increasingly nowadays, we’ll be suffering with very hot weather. As I have no idea what the Beacons are going to throw at us it’s probably just as well we’ve had all sorts to put up with here.

My plans for the next four weeks leading up to the event, subject to consultation with my trainers, is Week 1 – five consecutive days of 10-12mls, Week 2 – two or three days of 15-20mls, Week 3 – five consecutive days of 8-10mls and Week 4 – No walking but plenty of eating!

Thank you
Gill Tilcock
