Naked Art Lover

A 25-year-old Spanish tourist managed to raise a few eyebrows by stripping naked whilst standing in front of Sandro Botticelli’s Birth of Venus in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, Italy.

He stood for while just staring the work, then suddenly struck the same pose as the goddess who is depicted in the 15th-century painting. But our Spanish stripper wasn’t finished… he then took a handful of rose petals and scattered them around him, before going down on one knee in front of the work.

Thankfully, the incident was described as ‘peaceful’ by museum workers and the man, who has not been identified, was eventually taken away, shouting “freedom, freedom!” as he was marched from the building. He was later charged with indecent exposure.

Strange… the naked depiction of the goddess in the painting is ‘art’ but the naked man striking the same pose is ‘indecent.’  Wrong, maybe, breach of the peace, possibly… but indecent? Not an opinion, just a question.
