Accompalia Fundraising Success

ECO accompalia fundraising OnLCastell de Ferro Supporters Group shows its mettle in fundraising for Acompalia

Acompalia’s first dedicated Supporters Group was only formed a few months ago. Yet to date, the dynamic team from the village whose name means ‘Castle of Iron’ has raised over €2000 for the Granada-based hospice and palliative care charity. A Quiz Night held earlier in November raised €80.

Their latest project was a suitably merry Christmas Bazaar held in Castell de Ferro on Friday 29 November. The Bazaar raised €635 worth of sales from various stalls, including traditional goodies – a Tombola, jams and chutneys, toys and cards. “This is a fantastic total from one event and we can’t thank the group enough,” said Lesley O’Brien, head of Acompalia’s fundraising activities. “It’s not just that Maureen and her team put in the effort for these events, they also seem to enjoy doing it!” added Lesley.

Previous events created and run by the group include a Garden Fète, Flag Day, and coffee mornings, a Race Night and the Quiz Night. To end this dynamic run, there will be a Rastro on Sunday 8th December, and another Quiz on 12 December at 13:00 hours at Rompeolas Bar in Castell de Ferro. Finally, a convivial Carol Night is planned on 21 December at the home of Christine and Pat Gifford in Gualchos. (Please contact rongilroy@yahoo.co.uk). Could this be the most sociable community in Granada province?

Tina Emmott, president of Acompalia, said that the Castell de Ferro group has shown the way for other communities to get together and have fun with a purpose: “Support groups are vital to help us expand our Helpline and provide more services for terminally ill patients and their families in Granada.” We’d love to see more groups joining us for this purpose.”

Lesley O’Brien welcomes further enquiries about Acompalia’s fundraising. The team is busy with plans for more fundraising events in the coming months, and keen to hear from readers who would like to hold an event of their own in support of Acompalia.
