July in Almuñecar with Jazz en La Costa

This year’s 26th edition offers a variety of Jazz for all enthusiasts, fans and experts.

Wednesday 17th: Kicking off this year’s festival is Chucho Valdez and the Afro Cuban Messengers, best known for their Afro-Cuban fusion – what is best known today as Latin Jazz.

Thursday 18th: Terrance Blanchard Quintet is a five-time, Grammy Award-winning composer and is credited for the musical scores of Malcolm X, Jungle Fever and Do the Right Thing, just to name a few.

This New Orleans trumpeter comes together with Brice Winston, (saxophone) Fabian Almazan, (piano) Joshua Crumbly (Bass) and Kendrick Scott (drums) to bring us some modern Jazz, post bop if you will, reminiscent of the great Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

Friday 19th: Bugge’n’Friends Will deliver an evening of avant-garde jazz of acoustic and electronica fusion. Brass melodies, a temperate rhythm section and electronic percussion bring jazz a whole new level.

Saturday 20th: Pharoah Sanders Quintet breaks all the rules of conventional jazz with his Saxophone. Progressive and experimental with a notable influence of Coltrane and Parker with his tenor Saxophone, Pharoah Sanders will most certainly deliver an unconventional evening where anything goes.

Sunday 21st: Gregory Porter the only vocalist performer in this years line up, and possibly the only one we need. All embraced his debut album Water, released in 2010; it also earned him a Grammy nomination. His soft and often times powerful baritone voice is a perfect conclusion for this year’s festival which may very well include his version of Billy Holiday’s God Bless The Child featured in his latest albumn release Be Good
