Anybody driving along Avenida Costa del Sol in Almuñécar yesterday will have noticed that workers are cutting back the trees that line it.
Avenida Costa de Sol used to be known to locals as ‘disco alley’ because there were four discotheques along it at one point and was the centre of Almuñécar nightlife. Also until the late 70’s it used to be the main road, which is why it is lined with plane trees the same as the main road from the Paloma petrol station to the P-4 junction. At the end of the 70’s a new stretch of main road from the Guardia Civil junction to the petrol station was laid.
Anyway, this tree pruning has a budget of 6,000 euros and should last several days and drivers are asked not to park in that area, or at least, in the area still to be processed.
Unfortunately, as it is no longer part of the N-340, the cost of care for Avenida Costa del Sol falls to the town hall coffers, whereas the plane trees on the N-340 (La Paloma) are the Government’s responsibility.
