(Metropolitan Granada) The Policia Nacional have arrested an entire family; the father, mother and son, for stealing everything from the house that they had been renting – although paying the rent wasn’t actually high on their list-of-things-to-do.
Not content with emptying the flat from which they had received their marching orders, they then occupied a nearby empty house and cleared that out too, ending up with goods to the value of 20,000 euros.
They were nabbed because the owner of the second rented dwelling had alerted the police that somebody was inside without authorisation. He explained that he had just returned from a holiday to find his property in the Camino de Ronda had been broken into. He denounced that it was completely empty and had rubbish and excrement spread all around.
The owner said that furniture and goods to the value of 12,000 euros had disappeared. The police were soon around there and arrested the whole tribe, inviting them to take up free residence in the police cells.
Before long the owner of the original flat had heard what had happened and turned up at the police station to announce that not only had the family from hell not paid him various months of back rent, but they had also emptied his flat too of anything that had not been nailed down. He calculated that his loss amounted to around 8,000 euros.
A quick check through police records revealed that both the mother and son had impressive criminal records for precisely this kind of thing and had previously been released pending trial.
