The construction company behind a VPO project (government subsidized housing for low income families) has declared itself in a state of bankruptcy, bringing work on the building site in El Moruno to a halt. Noriega Edificaciones y Obra Civil S.L., which is based in Córdoba, not only leaves 18 dwellings in the first stage of construction; i.e., the foundations, but it also owes 1,162m euros to its creditors.
Does this mean the end of the VPO’s? Not really, because the developer behind the project is the Diputación Provincial (provincial area council), so this administrative body will simply have to put the project up for tender again. This, of course, will take time but the Diputación is confident that work will recommence before next summer.
El Barrio El Moruno is situated on the other side of the main road, approaching along the Avenida Costa del Sol.
