New Sports Club

I spoke briefly with Sophie Bruinsma (Dave Janssens’s daughter), who explained about a project to promote the sports facilities around town, which are plentiful and excellent in quality, by the way.

She and eight other specialized monitors have formed a non-profit-based club, offering a variety of different sports, in combination with an hour a day in La Herradura’s Centro Cívico for homework & conversation classes based on playing games. (English games for the Spanish and Spanish games for the English-speakers).

Now, even though this is a La Herradura-based club, conceived for the village, I imagine that it will consider members in Almuñécar. You’ll have to confirm that with Sophie.

This is quite handy for parents who have to work in the afternoon, as the club looks after the children every day between 4-7 pm. They can even pick up La Herradura children from their school ‘comedor’ and provide afternoon snacks.

Parents can sign their kids up for as many days a week they like, so everybody gets a chance to try out different sports or just to meet new friends.

Since the club started on the 13th of October, it already has 40 kids on board. Obviously the more members they have, the more material they will be able to buy.
