The AECC (Spanish Association against Cancer/Asociación Española Contra el Cancer) and The Seaside Gazette have teamed up to raise funds in the name of cancer. This project is in the form of the Classifieds ads page, which is now entitled Classifieds for Cancer. Starting this month, the Seaside Gazette is donating this page to the AECC.
From now on, the AECC centre in Almuñécar will be in charge of accepting classified ad submissions and payment for same. The price to place an ad is 10€ and all funds will go strictly to the AECC. Ad submissions and payment hereof can be made every Tues. between 10:00-12:00. Funds raised through this classifieds section will go towards home palliative care and also to assist in providing social and psychological help for cancer patients and/or their families.
The AECC has a psychologist, Laura, available at the AECC centre every alternate Wed. She is available by appointment and also makes house calls. She can be reached on tel. 670 597 015.
Furthermore, funds raised will be used towards cancer prevention. This year the emphasis is on preventing cancer of the colon. The AECC is open Mon. & Fri. from 11:00-13:00 and Tues. from 10:00-12:00. Cancer patients and families, or people seeking cancer information, are also welcome to drop in at the centre and have a chat with Jeanette Ashby and Cecilia Chacón.
Should anyone wish to donate money for this great cause, the AECC graciously accepts donations at the centre during opening hours, or by direct deposit to their bank account at Caja Rural, account number 3023-012880-1280050509. No amount is too small.
There are also other ways the AECC tries to raise money for the cause; one being the placement of collection boxes at various establishments in town. Another being selling the Christmas lottery tickets for 23€, where 3€ goes to them. Yet, another initiative involves the Almuñécar marathon on Oct. 3rd (organised by the local sports committee), where they will have a stand set up at the municipal stadium. On the morning of the race, runners can sign up and pay the running fee here. They will receive a bib with AECC’s logo on the front and back and all proceeds go to AECC.
Tuesday, October the19th is Breast Cancer Awareness Day. On this day, AECC volunteers will be handing out leaflets and pink ribbons at information tables situated at main points around town (i.e. town hall, municipal market etc.). They kindly ask that you accept the leaflet and wear the pink ribbon. They will not be accepting donations this day.
Also on Oct. 19th, Café Bar Ayer will be having an exciting event to support the AECC. Tracey Law, the owner, would like to invite everyone to participate in the Breast Cancer Awareness Day event she is having between 10:00 a.m. until late. To support the cause, Café Bar Ayer is donating 1€ to the AECC for every coffee and lemon-drizzle cake combo purchased. From 8:00 pm on, drinks are served with tapas. During the event, there will be numerous stalls set up showcasing items such as jewellery, beauty products, gift cards etc. She is also having a raffle with many fabulous prizes to win. All proceed will go to AECC. This is Tracey’s way of giving back to the AECC for their positive and encouraging support throughout her own fight with breast cancer.
Anyone wishing to donate a prize for the raffle are asked to call her at 622 173 269. AECC’s information and collection center is now located at c/Cerveteri no 3, Almuñécar (opposite The Business Hair Salon). Tel.607 274 398 or Jeanette’s tel. 958 630 330.
