Talking of nightlife, the Aquatropic has come up with an idea to replace the loss of its discotheque (Aquanoche). – An Ibiza-style market.
To understand this development it is worth noting that the water park does not have a licence that allows it to keep its doors open in the evening – hence the loss of the original discotheque.
Almuñécar night-goers do spend a lot of money, so the owners were mortally dismayed to be refused a licence for their discotheque by the Junta, despite the Town Hall tirelessly looking the other way all these years. After all, the night-time activities always made more money than the daytime use of the park.
So, the water park came up with this Ibiza-style market, which does appear to be mere justification for the premises setting up an evening chill-out bar.
The idea is good, adding to the things on offer in Almuñécar, and well deserves a visit, but perhaps the motivation behind it is more aimed at keeping the water park open and a bar operating, rather than providing a cultural outlet.
