There has been another fatal traffic accident in the Axarquía at the western end of the province of Málaga when a 4×4 driven by a man in his mid 60’s left the road and rolled down a steep embankment

The accident, which occurred on Friday, took place on a rural lane (Camino de las Casillas) within the municipality of Arenas, near the well-known Hacienda de la Macarena, deep in the heart of the Axarquia.

Although the over turned vehicle, which had rolled down an embankment for a distance of about 50 metres, was not found until 15.00h, it appeared that the accident happened much earlier. He had been travelling alone.

Officers from the Guardia Civil and the personnel from the Vélez-Málaga Fire Department had been sent to the scene as well as a 061 ambulance with paramedics onboard. The vehicle was lying in an area with difficult access, so reaching it was not easy.

When paramedics did reach the car, there was nothing that could be done for him as he was already dead. A coroner was then sent to authorise the lifting of the body so that it could be transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) of Malaga for an autopsy.

The Camino de las Casillas runs through an especially hilly terrain with very steep drops on bends. There are many cortijos dotted around in a countryside of subtropical crops, olive groves, vineyards, and almond trees.
