The body of a 38-year-old abseiler has been recovered by the Guardia Civil after he drowned in a pool under a waterfall.
The incident took place in the Junta de los Ríos, however not the Otívar one but a location by the same name in Pórtugos in the Alpujarra.
The man had been accompanied by four other abseiling enthusiasts when the weight of the water coming down the waterfall that he was descending trapped him under the water – there was nothing that his companions could do to save him.
The Guardia Civil received an alert at 12.30h yesterday and the Servicio de Montaña de la Comandancia was despatched to retrieve the body. Setting up a system of ropes they were able to extract the victim around 16.00h and after a coroner had issued a death certificate, the body was taken to the Instituto de Medicina Legal de Granada.
