Musical Molvízar

SAL Musical MolvizarThanks to the sponsorship of two local businesses, Molvízar now has a Symphonic Orchestra comprising of 72 young musicians. The orchestra conductor is Briton, Michael Thomas.

The two local sponsorships are from Restaurante La Cumbre and the transport company, Delgado; the orchestra also has the support of the Molvízar Town Hall. They have also received valuable support from Juventudes Musicales in Motril.

The orchestral formation, Joven Orquestra del Sur de España is made up of young musicians from all over Andalucía (hence its name) who, having concluded their musical studies, now find themselves in the fortunate situation of forming part of this new musical venture.

There first performance will be at the Restaurante La Cumbre, which is on the Molvízar road, on Saturday the 4th of January at 12.30h. The will be playing tradition polkas and Johann Strauss’s waltzes.

The concert will be followed up by a slap-up lunch, ‘Cumbre Style’ and all this entertainment and sustenance for only 30 euros per head!

Background info on Michael Thomas: Born in Middleborough in 1960, he started to manage his own orchestra- the Concertante Cleveland at the age of 14.

He went on studying in the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he passed his diploma with the honors.

SAL Michael ThomasIn London, he became the director of Kreisler Orchestra which, under his direction, won several prizes, among which the public, the press and the best interpretation ones, that owed him to make tours, particularly in Yugoslavia, France, Holland, Italy, England and well-known recordings.
In parallel with his career of conductor, he was the leader of the string Brodsky quarto that he set up during 27 years until 2000.

Michael Thomas worked on projects with artists with very different styles such as Elvis Costello, Paul McCartney, Bjork, Maria Joao Pires and Anne Sophie Von Otter, directed televised concerts at the Royal Albert Hall, and worked with different orchestras in Andalusia, England, Germany and Sweden.
