The Almuñécar bird park, Loro Sexi, should be reopening for the December Bank Holiday on the 6th-8th – no news on the Aquarium, however.
The work to get the bird park up and running has cost around 50,000 euros; a pittance compared to the 130,000 already spent on the Acuario.
The bird park and aquarium were closed last December when the leaseholder for the two installations fell down on the terms of the contract. Since then, the Town Hall has been banging away inside the park, which hadn’t had any modernization work done on it during 25 years of existence, to get it ready for the Puente de la Constitución-Inmaculada.
One necessary modification to the bird park has not been carried out, however, as the Town Hall considers it not achievable, and that is the elimination of architectural barriers; structures that make accessibility for people with mobility problems difficult or impossible. This will have to await more funds being available.
As for the Acuario, the only way that you are liable to see any fish near the installations is if you open a can of sardines outside the locked entrance.
