There was cause for celebration in the Danish community on Oct. 10th, when a late second-half goal by Jakob Poulsen gave Denmark a 1-0 win over Sweden in Copenhagen and secured our place in the World Cup finals. It was a priceless victory. Way to go Denmark!
Another cause for celebration took place on Sunday Oct. 18th, where approximately 350 guests (mostly Danes I might add) showed up throughout the day to wish Café Rosa a Happy 3rd Birthday. What a birthday bash it was and the weather couldn’t have been better.
The owners, Gitte and Bent Madsen, had borrowed tables and chairs from neighbouring restaurants to ensure outdoor seating for all their well-wishers. They had organized an outdoor hotdog stand and believe me; the line-up there was endless. The guests enjoyed hours of live music provided by New Orleans Jump Band, which was accompanied by Almuñécar´s own cornet player, Kjeld Madsen, during the third set. Not a seat in the house was empty, end even the beach benches and the roundabouts were occupied. It actually felt more like a little outdoor festival.
The party was supposed to be from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. but the first guests arrived around 11:00 a.m. and the die-hards left around 7:00 p.m. Gitte and Bent were delighted to be able to thank all their loyal and regular clients by putting on the event. The young Danish couple moved to Almuñécar in March 2006 in search of a better life in the sun.
