Law-Court Project On Hold

The Torrox law-court building to remain on the back-burner because the Junta de Andalucía has no funds for it, explained José Luis Ruiz Espejo, when he paid a visit to the Torrox Town Hall.

Scruffs Success in Torrox

The first of this year’s annual Costa Animal Society dog shows took place on May 26 and raised 1,950 euros for the charity. Scruffs Torrox 2012 was held at the Andale Riding Centre and attracted 49 dogs who were judged in 11 classes.

Smugglers’ Narrow Escape

Police officers from the Servicio de Vigilancia Aduanera (SVA) based in Motril confiscated two tonnes of cannabis, found in a inflatable craft on a beach near the border between the municipalities of Torrox and Nerja.

Nobody Interested

The Torrox Town Hall has finally given up trying to get somebody interested in the purchase of two pieces of municipal land, situated in the URP10 sector of the standing PGOU, which is the Barranco del Puerto area.

Dig Deeper

Locals of Nerja are going to have to dig deeper into their pockets to pay for their rubbish collections. Bear in mind that the rates for domestic rubbish collections have been static since 1992. The cost of the service was incorporated into the IBI, or local, property tax.

El Chucho Topped Up

On the 22nd of March the Nerja Town Hall approved a motion in a Plenary Meeting of the Town Council to send of a request to Demarcación de Costas de Andalucía Mediterráneo to have the town’s beaches sorted out, which had been badly damaged by winter gales, namely El Chucho.

Torrox Art Exhibition

Local Torrox artist, Margaret Riordan has several new paintings on display at Taberna del Choto on Avda. de Competa in Torrox pueblo, and at the Axarquia Artists exhibition currently on display at the Tourist Information Office in Frigiliana, which has been extended until 25 February.

Farmers Fight in Frigiliana

The law courts in Torrox are also processing another case involving a dispute resulting in a man of German nationality who allegedly caused the death of a 50-year-old neighbour.

Looking for Trouble…

A young girl made the mistake of recriminating a 40-year-old man for spitting on the ground outside a discotheque in Antonio Millón in Nerja. His response was to walk up to her and spit in her face, but it didn’t stop there.
