Belgian Hikers Rescued

Fire personnel from the Bomberos de Marbella carried out a complicated mission yesterday evening to rescue three Belgian hikers.

The three hikers; two aged 50 and one, 25, had got lost in the Monchalbán area of the municipality of Marbella.

They had set out at eleven in the morning from Juanar with the aim of reaching Istán. During the route, however, they got lost trying to descend to the reservoir but ending up in a steep-sided barranco.

It was 18.30h when they decided to phone for help, contacting 112, which despatched a specialised team belonging to the Marbella Fire Department.

They soon tracked them to a spot some 250 metres in line of sight but higher up so they set about reaching them using ropes and tackle. Thankfully the team had a good working knowledge of the area and were able to lead them out with nobody worse for wear.
