Beach Bathrooms

Motril’s Plan de Transformación de Playas includes doing up the public bathrooms and street lighting, for example.

Mayor Luisa García Chamorro went along for a photo-op outside one of these four installations; the one next to the Restaurante El Espeto on Playa Granada.

With a budget of 105,000 euros, coming from the municipal coffers, with a little help from its friends (Regional Council) they will modernise all four public toilets.

Furthermore, the Department for Beaches will also be turning its attention to Playa de Poniente with the aim of regaining its Bandera-Azul status next year.

To this end, work on Playa de Poniente includes modernising the water-mains and sewage system, eliminating their poor performance from previous years.

The Mayor said, “We are taking up every funding opportunity to invest in Motril’s beaches and thus try to break with seasonality [i.e., improve off season tourism] so that Motril residents and visitors can enjoy our beaches year-round.”

Other works include the improvement of street lighting along the Paseo Rey Balduino and more children’s play areas. They also intend to put up public lighting along the Senda Litoral, for which they will need permission from the Coastal Authority (Costas).

Returning to the public beach toilets next to Chiringuito Alonso, Restaurante El Espeto, and Chiringuito La Marea, the Mayor said that the times that they will be open during the winter will be extended: 11.00h to 20.00h

Once all this work is completed, the next task will be the renovation of the toilet and Red-Cross modules located next to the Alonso Beach Bar and also on Playa del Cable.
