The Almuñécar, Councillor for Citizen Participation, Mari Carmen Martín Orce, announced that according to the latest statistics, Almuñécar has grown in population.
The National Institute of Statistics (INE) publishes the population figures for every municipality in the country, amongst them those of Almuñécar, which gave a figure of 27,544 inhabitants. That constitutes 233 more than the previous year.
Vice-Mayor Rafael Caballero (who is also the Chairman of the Mancomunidad) gleefully pointed out that this means that the Town Hall will receive extra money from the Central and Regional Governments. This is why it is important to empadronarse as these administrations base their calculation on this register.
Councillor Mari Carmen Martín Orce considered that this growth in the population is a “clear sign that our town is an attractive place to live and work.” She also pointed out that a larger population requires more expenditure in public services
