A fight involving knives on the streets of Almuñécar this afternoon led to the death of one of the men involved.

The incident took place around 16.00h where Calle Vélez meets the Avenida de Europa. A passerby immediately went to the Policía Local offices are reported what was unfolding. They in turn alerted the Guardia Civil.

The police found both men, one of whom has a criminal record, on the ground bleeding. An ambulance soon arrived and stabilised the more seriously injured one so that he could be rushed to a waiting air-ambulance helicopter in the municipal stadium. However, this 33-year-old man died before it could take off with him onboard.

The person who stabbed him had several cut wounds, although none were life threatening, so he was taken to the Centro de Salud and once patched up taken into police custody pending appearing before a police court.

The dead man is well known in Almuñécar and had worked as a bouncer for a nightclub. According to people who know them, they said that the men had been threatening each other on social media.
