Seven cyclists were injured after being run down by a car driven by an 89-year-old man in Palma in the Balearic Islands.
The accident occured around 10.30h yesterday on the MA19A in the direction of Llucmajor, according to the Guardia Civil based on the Island.

The elderly driver was travelling in the same direction; i.e., on the same lane, when for an unknown reason he hit seven of the cyclists from behind.
An ambulance rushed to the scene, all of the cyclists had suffered multiple bruises to their bodies. One of them, didn’t require being taken to hospital whereas the other six did.
Four of them were taken to the Clínica Rotger and the other two to the Clínica Palmaplanas. None of them was reported to be seriously injured.
The 89-year-old driver was breathalysed at the scene, the results of which came back negative. In the meantime, the Guardia Civil are trying to find out how the accident happened.

Reader’s comment: “If it’s anything like some of the cyclists here. Cycling can be dangerous to your health. Cyclists who on a ordinary road swing out into the middle of said road. When approaching a bend. Now we all give a wide lee way to cyclist. Especially if safe to do so. Going halfway onto the other side of the road. But a lot of cyclists ignore the rules of the road. Cycling side by side. Even in groups. Or pulling out into the road to overtake their mate. No shoulder look to see if anything is behind. While I know that the car or lorry will always win. Perhaps the police should give these people a bit more personal advice.
Maybe , and I do cycle occasionally. Maybe a form of cycling insurance and mandatory cycle helmets should be enforced.” – Patrick Barry Storey
