A reader writes in to point out that Almuñécar is twinned with the Palestinian town of Khan Yunis in Gaza and asks whether the Mayor has made any comment.
As the town of Khan Yunis in Gaza is twinned with Almunecar, has there been any response from the Mayor to the genocide in Gaza?
Many people don’t know exactly what is still happening a year later, because much of the mainstream media and Governments who support Israel don’t wish to report it and continue to supply weapons to the Israeli regime who have killed at least 42,000 people.
The Lancet medical journal estimated the real figure is more like 180,000 people as so many are under the rubble.
I am a Twitter user, but I don’t support Elon Musk. Had it not been for people on the ground last week showing a young man in a hospital tent burning alive and so many other atrocities during the last year, the world would not know.
More journalists, mostly Arabs have been killed during this genocide than any other in recent history because Israel and most of the Western establishment don’t want you to know. To be silent a year on, is to be complicit.

Reader’s Comment: “I think the only option is for the UN mandated 2 state to be set up. Unfortunately the Israeli government have done a ‘good job’ in equating antisemitic with anti-israel. This is like saying being against Keir Starmer or Boris Johnson is the same as being anti-British. Many Jewish people are appalled at the actions of the Israeli government.” – Paul Craddock
Reader’s comment: “I think a two State solution is now impossible and sadly there are no way enough Jewish people speaking out, but a truly applaud the ones who do. Norman Finkelstein is one example. Most Jewish Israelis support the Netanyahu Government and that is a fact most people shy away from.” Julie
Reader’s comment: “Israel takes action only after being attacked and to then ensure any further threat is quashed. The majority of Israeli’s support such action, and so they should. As long as Arab countries support terror groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, there will be no lasting peace.” – Shiner
Reader’s comment: “@Shiner: Whilst the Israeli State, against International Law continues to steal Palestinian land (which is an established fact and not hearsay), and its army commits crimes against humanity, there will be no lasting peace. Governments worldwide are mostly complicit in the genocide in Gaza for providing arms and not demanding a ceasefire.” – Julie
Reader’s comment: “Julie, I suspect that if you lived in the UK you would have been on the Pro-Palestinian marches in London. It’s open to debate on Land Stealing, not fact. Crimes against humanity could possibly be made against the Israelis, however when terror groups hide under schools and hospitals there will always be civilian casualties unfortunately. I find it very strange how Pro-Palestinians forget what happens when terrorist groups attack Israel. If anyone attacks your homeland you should expect a response. If your homeland blatantly allow terror groups to reside and grow there, then there will be a price to pay at some point. Fighting will never solve the situation out there. The terrorists need to disband to allow serious debate on a way forward, unfortunately I cannot ever see that ever happening.” – Shiner
Reader’s comment: I would imagine not a great deal of Almuñecans know that they are twinned with Khan Yunis . Unless you or I have family going through what’s going on with the conflict then its not our business to pass comment”” – Warren
Reader’s Reply: “Warren If people like you just bury their heads in the sand and do not comment or raise objection then injustice around the world would just continue without anyone being taken to account. On the other side of the coin, people should also give praise to those who do good too. Freedom dictates that people should be allowed to comment as they wish so long as its honest and just comments. “Its got nothing to do do with me” is something you should only hear in the school playground.” – Shiner
Reader’s Reply: “@ Warren. I disagree with you. “Unless you or I have family going through what’s going on, then it’s not our business to pass comment” So hypothetically, if genocide is happening anyway in the world, unless my family is involved, I have to shut up. What a ridiculous comment you made.” – Julie
Reader’s reply: “Everyone is entitled to there opininion I cannot comment on the genocide because I wasn’t there. Viva The Underground Railroad” – Warren
