The Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro met with the Junta de Andalucía representative, Rocío Díaz Jiménez in the first formal meeting on the new marina project.
Just about any project, be it a golf course or a marina, comes with hundreds, some time thousands of new housing, and this marina project is no exception, as it will include 2,500 new dwellings along with 47,000 sq/m of hotels, shopping areas and tourism-oriented premises.
The new marina, which has a budget of 129-million euros coming exclusively from private funding, will have 758 moorings or berths, covering an area of 159,558 sq/m. The berths area is divided into two connected by a pedestrian bridge. (See accompanying image.)
The project has already received the approval stamp from the Agencia de Puertos de Andalucía, but there are technical points to be ironed out.
Mayor Chamorro considers the project to be “a crucial investment for the future of the town,” as it will not only boost tourism but will also create more jobs, she pointed out.
The Junta representative, Rocio Díaz Jiménez said that Playa Granada is a transformative project not only for Motril, but for the whole province.

Reader’s comment: “O so very nice. What is the time line when all this going to happen? It’s like the project for the harbor. That still not happened” – R. Grafton
Reader’s comment: So what hapened to the Marina at La Caleta (the Sugar factory)?” – Trevor Watson
Answering you both… I’ve seen projects that never happened (golf course up behind La Herradura) and projects that did finally happen (the new Centro de Salud on the P4 in Almuñecar) and projects that have been spoken about for over 20 years yet might still happen (Almuñécar underwater theme park)… so the only response is, we will have to wait and see – Martin 😉
