The Dirección General de Carreteras issued a favourable report for the proposed roundabout on the N-340 that will give access to Salobreña via La Caleta.
However, the Town Hall is not letting up because an access point here for the beach area between La Guardia and El Peñón is essential for the hotel development plans for the TH1, it considers.
A motion in favour of this roundabout project was proposed by the IU at the last Plenary Meeting of the Town Hall and it was unanimously approved.
Consequently, the Mayor wants a commission to be set up, composed of municipal surveyors, etc and officials from the Ministerio de Transportes y Movilidad Sostenible to bring the project to frutition.
Of course, if Salobreña takes over responsibility on the N-340 where it passes through the municipality it could build roundabout whereever it likes, but according to Mayor Javier Ortega, this would be “economic suicide,” as Salobreña does not have the financial resources to do it off its own back.

Reader’s comment: “This all may be good for the future of Salobreña but- constructing a round about is not the only thing that would need to happen to make this all work. They would need to deal with the rest of the route that would lead to the proposed hotels from La Caleta to them (Ctra. Caleta). As it is, two cars cannot pass each other going opposite directions. Add pedestrians and cyclists and it’s a nightmare. This is the current situation.” – Shak
