Unwelcome Visitor

Owing to the Corpus Fiestas in Granada, many people from the city have been arriving on the Costa Tropical, but we're not referring to them, but to a shark.

MOT Shark Spotted off Playa del CableThe sighting was close to the beach on Playa del Cable (which is the one closest to the port on the western side. The ‘visitor’ was between 1.5 and 2.0 metres long, but other eyewitness accounts also described it as a manta ray or a large tuna fish.

The main thing was that the sea creature devoured nobody and nobody devoured the sea creature. Sharks do approach shallow water just off beaches but not when there are bathers splashing around in the surf – they’re too annoying.

Anyway, the Motril Policía Local were called out as were the Guardia Civil, who couldn’t see anything big anywhere nearby in the water, apart from a large woman and her equally corpulent husband. The police quelled the urge to arrest them for obstructing ocean currents.

But it didn’t end there because Salvamento Marítimo was also sent out to search the area but to no avail.
