Lenient Speed Cams

Almuñécar Town Hall is going to install speed cameras in front of the municipality's schools. There is already one in place.

ALM School Speed CameraThe Mayor, Juan José Ruiz Joya, explained that if they clock you speeding, there is no fine involved; they’re just there for you to think twice when speeding past a junior school. Furthermore, it doesn’t mean, either, that at a later date, they couldn’t be handing out fines.

The first one has been installed in San Sebastian (Otívar Road) in front of the school gates belonging to the Colegio La Santa Cruz.

The press release says that the device will “alert drivers if they are going too fast.” Whether this means that there is some kind of display showing your speed or it launches a dummy Exocet at you (with “just kidding written on the warhead) remains to be seen.
