The Asociación de Vecinos del Casco Antiguo de Salobreña has publicly rejected the new system for the collection of domestic waste, which was recently put into practice.
The new system consists of a door-to-door collection of recyclable domestic waste with each type of rubbish being collected on particular days.
The neighbourhood association for the old town claims that ever since the new system was announced the majority of residents in the old town reject the system. In fact, the association has sent in two proposals for modification to the system, both of which have been ignored, they claim.
“We want organic waste to be collected every day of the week and that the recycling bins should be maintained where they are for other kinds of waste,” explained the Chairman of the association, Jorge Martín. He added that residents in the old town are very committed to the separation of domestic waste.
Sr. Martín said, “We firmly believe in dialogue but we have not discounted the option of collecting signatures, amongst other measures, if our reasonable request is ignored.”
