A Belgian man of Moroccan origin was intercepted in a Madrid bus station with a bag containing firearms.
The arrest took place yesterday evening in the Méndez Álvaro Bus Station and was carried out by the Brigada Móvil belonging to the Policía Nacional. He had just arrived from Málaga and was en route for Nantes.
In his travel bag he had a G3, 7.62mm assault rifle, several magazines, as well as a 9mm (parabellum) pistol and three bullet-proof vests. He was obviously not on his way to a Boy Scouts convention.
The arrested man is thought to belong to the Mocro Maffia, a dangerous criminal gang that traffics drugs in the Netherlands and Belgium, but with ‘tentacles’ that reach the Costa del Sol.
The 25-year old is wanted in Belgium in relation to robbery, murder and kidnapping.
The Brigada Móvil is part of the anti-terrorist operations in place in Madrid following threats from Islamic terrorists to target football matches this week being played as part of the Liga de Campeones in the capital.
