Clearing The Beaches of Debris

The Almuñécar municipal cleaning crews belonging to FCC were out at the beginning of the week clearing up all the debris brought down by the rivers and ramblas.

ALM Vegetation brought down by rivers onto the beachesThe Councillor for Beaches, Lucía González, explained that most of the wild cane and other vegetation has come ashore near the mouths of  Río Verde and Río Seco, affecting the beaches of Fuentepiedra, Puerta del Mar, La Caletilla and San Cristóbal.

As for La Herradura, the beach area nearest Río Jate accumulated the most debris.

Editorial Comment: If they cleared the rivers of vegetation, it wouldn’t all end up on the beaches. The rivers very rarely flow, but when they do, they bring down a lot more than just water, unfortunately.

At least people are no longer dumping old white goods and furniture in the riverbeds, because that all used to end up on the beaches or on the seabed.
