There was a bit of a rumpus on Wednesday in Motril when the Guardia Civil turned out in force to search a warehouse and an attic flat on Calle Matadero Viejo.
This was the result of a police investigation carried out by the Servicio de Protección de la Naturaleza (Seprona) or in other words the Environmental Department of the Guardia Civil.
The raids took place in the early morning and involved closing off the said street and at least a dozen police vehicles. The warehouse was simultaneous hit, which is on the Camino de Las Ventillas in El Puntalón. The warehouse belongs to a Motril-based, horticultural company.
Officers confiscated 213,000 kg of fruit & vegetable produce which are labelled as ecological without demonstrating where they actually come from. The police also arrested three people behind the company. The raided flat allegedly belongs to a representative of the Eco Group Spain.
The company, which was founded in 2003 is known locally as Frutos Los Pisaos, although it changed its name in 2021 after one of its founders retired.
