PSOE Spokesperson, Patricia Gutierrez, and PSOE Councillor Jose Carmona, have asked for transparency concerning the local, water situation in Nerja.
These opposition councillors want greater clarity on such matters as drought measures, the natural radioactivity in the Maro water system, the salinisation of the water table, the recycling of waste water and the management of storm runoff.
The reason that they are demanding this information is that they claim that they have been excluded by the governing party in Nerja, the Partido Popular, from participating in these issues.
Councillor Carmona considers that if he were the Councillor in charge of environmental issues within the municipality, he would ask for a feasibility study concerning the construction of a storm tank connected with EDAR (sewage-treatment plant) to capture rainwater and adapt green zones with urban-drainage systems, creating ‘rain gardens.’
The said councillor has a degree in Environmental Sciences and actually works in this sector, which is why the PSOE consider that it is not logical to shut out qualified experts in this sector when the town is facing water-supply issues.
