Belgian Fugitive Arrested

The Policía Nacional have arrested a Belgian man wanted by the police back home, suspected of being involved in a murder in Vorst.

AND Torremolinos Policia NacionalThe 25-year-old man had been lying low on the Costa del Sol in Torremolinos under a false identity, which is where the police caught up with him. When the police searched where he had been staying they also found a submachine gun, as well as a pistol in his car.

The Belgian authorities had put out photos of the suspect in March last year but he had disappeared, suspected of having left the country after removing a GPS tracking bracelet around his ankle.

An international arrest warrant was immediately issued and then finally on the 14th of March this year two plainclothes officers saw two men who were behaving nervously. They were about to enter an apartment-block on Avenida Carlota Alessandri, but the officers stopped them before they went inside.

The officers asked for their IDs, which on closer inspection of one of these documents raised their suspicions further; the photo looked similar to the bearer but not enough. In fact, both IDs turned out to be false.

Both men were arrested for possessing forged ID documents and one for the illegal possession of firearms. Both are being held in police custody pending an appearance before a judge, where, for one of them, extradition procedures will commence.
