Two opposition parties in Salobreña, Partido Popular and Más Costa Tropical are scathing in their criticism of the Mayor for rejecting a motion in a Plenary Meeting.
The motion was for Salobreña to hire motorised, sea-surface, clean skiffs for this summer. According to the PP, the Mayor’s party actually contained this proposal in their electoral pledges.
The Mayor’s party, the PSOE, backed by their coalition partners, IU,CA and Ciudadanos, cited “a lack of municipal economic resources,” which drew criticism from the PP stating that these crafts provided, “an essential service for any beach that other coastal municipalities offer.” In fact, the PP considers it unacceptable that the Mayor does not have this service included in the budget.
Their Spokesperson, Rafael Bosch, went on, “If we live in an officially recognised Municipio Turístico we cannot do without a service like this, especially as we have six kilometres of beaches that have to be in perfect condition for locals and tourists alike during the summer.”
He says that he has been in contact with councillors in charge of beaches in neighbouring municipalities, which have this kind of craft, such as Almuñécar, Motril and Torrenueva Costa, and has learnt that the cost of hiring a cleaning skiff during July and August is approximately 25,000 euros. This sum, Councillor Bosch considers, is completely manageable for the Town Hall, adding that if Salobreña intends to be competitive as a tourist destination with its neighbour that it has to invest in its services.
