Fourteen people were injured in the Salou PortAventura theme park in Cataluña after a tree was blown over onto riders in an attraction.
The park made this announcement on their Twitter account explaining that the accident, caused by high winds, occurred yesterday morning. The tree stood next to the Tomahawk big dipper and when it came down some of the branches hit a passing carriage.
Those injured were immediately attended to by the park’s medical staff; some required hospital treatment. Fourteen people were affected, two of which were taken to different hospitals: the Hospital de Bellvitge (Barcelona) and the Hospital Universitari Joan XXIII (Tarragona), with the latter being the closest.
This theme park attracts around 3.5 million visitors per year, making it the most visited theme park in Spain and the sixth most visited theme park in Europe.
