Officer Thwarts Street Aggression

An off-duty officer belonging to the Policía Local in Motril managed to stop a man in the act of hitting a woman in the middle of a heated argument.

MOT Telepizza & Tourist Info OfficeThe incident took place in the afternoon of the 12th of this month on Avenida Andalucía. The officer concerned, who prefers to remain anonymous, was driving past the Tourist Information Office around 16.00h on his way to taking his daughter to football practice when he saw the man making to strike the woman.

The aggressor, around 1.80m in height and a heavy constitution, was insulting (Puta, eres una mierda) and shouting at the woman, presumably, his partner. She was trying to get away from him but he cut her off from escape. This was when he raised his hand with the intention of striking her.

The officer drew to a halt and jumped out to intervene by getting between them, grabbing the man’s raised arm. At this point a motorbike rider also stopped to help the officer, which enabled the woman to get away, stopping by the Telepizza premises. The assailant attempted to follow her but was prevented.

More people came to the aid of the officer and one even calmed the officer’s daughter who was waiting in the car, anxious and in tears should anything happen to her father.

The aggressor reported shouted, “I can do what I want with my woman!” and “Don’t you do the same?”

At this point the man managed to break off and leave the scene despite those surrounding him. However, the officer managed to get the ID of the victim in order to track the aggressor down later.

Editorial comment: God how things have changed since the 80s! It was still the case in those days that it was ‘nobody’s business,’ and to look the other way.
