Air & Sea Search off Marbella

The search continues for two young men who sent out a request for help after the motor on their boat packed up leaving them at the mercy of the currents.

AND S&R LaunchThis happened off the coast of Marbella Tuesday evening.

Salvamento Marítimo mobilised their rescue launch, Salvamar Alnitak at 09.00h Saturday morning, working towards the area in front of Caleta de Vélez (Vélez-Málaga), up to five nautical miles out to sea.

The two men, aged 26 and 31, where sailing off Cabopino when their engine broke down so they sent out a distress call at 20.23h Tuesday night. They were in a 6.5m long, fibre-hull boat with the name of Budión.

Guardia Civil units checked nearby ports and marinas to see if they had managed to reach land whilst the search continued out to sea.

The Centro de Salvamento Marítimo (CCS) in Tarifa mobilised that evening and the next morning, rescue launches Salvamar Gadir, Salvamar Alnitak and Salvamar Hamal, as well as air-sea-rescue helicopters, Helimer 223 and Helimer 207.

The search continued into Sunday but at the time of writing we have no reports on sightings or continued S&R missions.
