Owing to the work on building an underpass for pedestrians beneath the autovía opposite the Nevada Shopping Centre, part of it will be closed to traffic.
Work will start on the 15th and should last three weeks, necessitating the closure of the access ramp on the Jaén-bound lane and the one giving access to the PTS hospital and the shopping centre. Alternative access routes will be via the exit for Ogíjares on A-395.
The road will be closed from just after midnight on Monday the 15th and work will take approximately three weeks.
Construction crews on the pedestrian underpass (subway) learnt the hard way when they used the method of simply pushing the already-built tunnel through the earth as it deformed the road surface and they had to close the autovía to repair it, spending extra money on reinforcement.
This time they’re simply going to slice down through the autovía from above and lower the tunnel structure into the hole.

Fred: precisely our thoughts as we passed by the site on our way to the Nevada Shopping Centre yesterday. If you gave town planning for Granada’s major hospital on one side and a huge shopping centre on the other…
You would think they would have thought about pedestrian access in the first place and of course the cost would have been less than retrofitting one
