Masks in Hospitals & Medical Centres

The Minister of Public Health for the Central Government, Mónica García, has called upon autonomous regions to make mask use obligatory in medical centres, too.

SPN Health Minister Monica GarciaShe will make this request before the Consejo Interterritorial del Sistema Nacional de Salud (CISNS) to counter the spread of flu and covid.

The CISNS is a governmental board where all the regional Ministers of Public Health meet to coordinate efforts and synchronise criteria.

On the 4th it was announced that flu cases had increased by 75.7% in the preceding week, standing at 438.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants

GPs approached the Government with the request that mask use in their surgery be made obligatory again. Furthermore, the Sociedad Española de Medicina de Familia y Comunitaria (SemFYC) asks that other protective measures should return, such as the use of hand-gels and separation in waiting-room seating within medical centres.

The autonomous region of Valencia has already imposed obligatory mask use in its hospitals and medical centres to try and slow flu infection down.

The Minister of Health for the autonomous region of Madrid, Fátima Matute (PP), criticised the Central Government (PSOE) for not arranging this meeting before when the flu epidemic was at its maximum point.

Minister Mónica García, however said that each region should take the steps necessary as regional health boards know better than anybody how their regions are fairing, no doubt referring to the steps already taken by Valencia, which begs the question why Madrid hadn’t already done so, if its regional health authorities consider that the Central Government should have acted earlier.
