The accused, 57-year-old Melvyn from the Netherlands, was found guilty of having murdered a fellow countryman in a pub in Torremolinos.

AND Machete Attack in Torremolinos PubThe Public Prosecutor and the defence lawyer have reached an agreement on time to be served, which is 10 years’ imprisonment. The accused admitted to having killed the victim and accepted the recommendation of the P.P.

The incident took place in a pub called Heineken Corner, very popular amongst Dutch residents and visitors, where the two men had argued.

Then outside on the street, Melvyn struck the 50-year-old victim, Cornelis (more commonly known as Cees) with a machete

Melvyn expressed his regret for his actions and apologised to members of the victim’s family, who were present in the courtroom. Through his lawyer he has already paid 96,020 euros as part of the compensation that he would  be ordered to pay, which turned out to be 400,000 euros (100,000 for the widow and 100,000 for each of his three children).

The Public Prosecutor had taken into account the money already paid over to the family and reduced his recommendation from 13 to 10 years.

The CCTV footage recorded in the pub on the 25th of May, 2022, was crucial for clarifying exactly how the murder unfolded. The argument had begun when Melvyn had made indecent remarks to a group of underage girls. Cees rebuked him for his comments and attitude, saying that the girls were young enough to be his daughters. They then squared off to each other before the pub owner separated them.

Melvyn then said that he was going home but instead went to his car and brought back the murder weapon at the same moment when Cees had stepped outside to have a smoke.
