Personnel belonging to the Servicio Marítimo de la Guardia Civil rescued two people after their kayak capsized.
The incident occurred on Wednesday below the cliffs on one side of Playa Rijana and involved a father and son.
The emergency call centre received an alert call around 18.15h from an eyewitness who had seen the two men struggling in the water, shouting for help.
The Air-Sea Rescue Service sent out Helimer 207; a helicopter being the fastest way to reach the area.
In the meantime, Motril’s Policía Local commenced the protocol to activate the heliport near the town’s fairground, in case it was needed, although in the end, it was not.
The Guardia Civil also sent a patrol vessel, which is what was used to fish them out of the water, although the proximity of rocks made this manoeuvre difficult.
They were taken to Motril Port where an ambulance was waiting but as they were only suffering from very mild hypothermia, they did not need treatment at a medical centre.
